THE HAPPY SNAPPER TAKE TWO!

As promised here is the hybrid version of 'Memory Keeper' ;)

Gotta love it when a page comes together so easily here are some quick shots of the process, maybe you might give hybrid a go too when you see how easy it is. So here's how I did it...

Step 1: I isolated all the digital elements from my digital version of the page and dropped them into a word doc so I could print it off.  Tip: Before printing I enhanced the brightness and set the printer to CMYK colour mode to ensure the colours were as close as possible to the original image.

 Step 2:

After printing off the elements I prepared them so they were ready to use on the hybrid page version. 

 Step 3:

Using a stencil I found at a Vinnie's Store and Versa Color ink 183 Cement I was able to replicate the grey stripes onto the base cardstock.

 Step 4:

I overlayed the cardstock ontop of a 12X12 'Circle Grid' Crafters workshop template.

Tip: Make sure each layer is taped into position to prevent any movement.

 Step 5:

I debossed the cardstock by carefully rubbing the surface using a paper creaser to create this fabulous debossed circle grid pattern.

Tip: When using this technique on plain coloured cardstock make sure your tools are clean to prevent any unnecessary dirty scuffs and marks.

 Step 6:

After printing off the word art onto a sheet of Grafix Rub-Onz I carefully positioned it onto the base cardstock making sure to align it. (NB: You can now purchase Grafix Rub-Onz at Paper Stories here.)

Tip: Use a chizler or the longer side of your paper creaser to remove any

bubbles and achieve a clean fixing.

Step 7: When the top plastic layer of the grafix rub-onz turnes a whiter opaque colour you can lift an edge and peel back the layer to expose the underside which is infact your customised rub-on design.

SEW SIMPLE SKETCH CHALLENGE

Can I say I am a little bit excited about my Guest Design Spot over at Soul Scrappers.

Its been ages since I have set a challenge anywhere and so am cheering to be able to invite you to this one.

For the month of July I am hosting the GDT2 Challenge called 'Sew Simple Sketch Challenge'. All you have to do is sign up to the Soul Scrappers ning community, create a project using the sketch below and for added extra criteria include some stitching into your project whether it be machined, hand sewn or doodled! Its as easy as that.

Here is my sample page with lots of crazy machine stitching, I love how stitching adds that extra little something!

Oh and as added incentive I will be offering this fabulous RAK to the overall winner :)

I hope you'll come and join me submission date ends 31st July so you have plenty of time to get out that sewing machine that might be collecting dust tee hee.

COVER YOU IN KISSES

Its Friday so we have a new palette at The Color Room. #117 is a vibrant mix of rich warm hues of pink and magenta with a twist of orange thrown into the mix, its a beautiful bright and happy palette to play with. Here is my DT page.

I used the Blazonry and Mini Gears TCW Templates on this page. I am loving mixing the templates up it adds a little different point of interest & seeing how the various designs play off each other is quite cool too. I also finally got my hands on some Ezy Carve (which I bought from Eckersleys) to create my own handcarved stamps. So started off doing a basic Chevron to stamp another bold contrasting pattern into the design like I didn't already need more pattern tee hee. 

I also used some plumbers tape, hand coloured some yucky green foam thickers (which is always a buzz knowing I've managed to save a few buckaroo's not buying new Thickers) and used the fabulous Kaisercraft Texture Numbers stamp which is presently my fave stamp (from Mad About Scrappin), if you havent got it yet add it to your list you wont be disappointed ;)). Oh and lastly this little beauty of a font took pride of place.

1950's FAMILY PHOTO...

OMG its Friday already I am losing days at the moment, I need for time to slow down just by two days then I can get on top of everything its madness here. Anyways with Friday comes a brand new Palette from TCR and this weeks #114 is a fabulous selection of brown and gold hues. I was so struck by Dells page this week [it was her layout that sold me on the palette as its not one I would normally go for], so I decided I best play along and use some more of the PP's supplied my this months sponsor Feature Arts. 

Here is my page using braided rice papers from Feature Art, some fabulous Tissue Napkins from my friend Kyla's FB page Left of Centre and a few cute embellishments like the Glass Mushroom and the Cherry Blossom from D-Lish Scraps all of which worked perfectly into the palette. I also created the background by simply inking the 12X12 Circle Grid by TCW and then roughly gessoing over the top. and then collaged some papers and finally machine stitched some crazy stitching.

Here is my digi version which I created after photographing the base of the trad page and rendering it on PS to create a digital paper, not sure which one I like best!

Okay so thats it for today no more blogging I promise, my gosh this is my third entry between the two I have lol...sorry 'bout that! ;) Have a great long weekend everyone and TFL.

NOW PLAYING...

Its that time of the month again the new sketch challenge is live over at Mad About Scrappin's FB page your project must be uploaded to the FB page by the 25th of June to be in the running for 2 X $10 Mad About Scrappin Vouchers. NB: Your layouts are not to be used for any other competitions.
This months sketch is a 3 photo design but as you can see below I only used two. I also used a fabulous kit called 'Movie Night' by Miss Mint which you can grab at Peppermint Creative to create both the traditional and digital versions of my DT page.

There is also a fun tutorial I did sharing some of my tips on 'How to Create a Hybrid Scrapbook Page' with some easy to follow steps on how to make your very own embellishments using digital kits over at the Mad About Scrappin blog you can check it out here :) Its specifically using the kit I mentioned above and that you can see below 'Movie Night' by Miss Mint, but can easily be applied to any digi kit you might have in your scrappy stash.

The tutorial shows you how to make glass cabachons, add dimension to cut out shapes, making realistic tickets, creating those fun skewered embellishments that are so popular at the moment and addressing the minor aesthetics that add a whole lot of punch to the end product.

I hope you find the tutorial helpful and maybe just maybe get you thinking about how a digi kit can open up your world of scrapping to a completely new territory of customisation and fun.

A LITTLE MAD ABOUT SCRAPPIN ECHO PARK!

Ya just gotta cheer when the boss lady gives you the coolest papers to play with... This month Leanne gave me Echo Park's This & That Charming range of PP's to play with and I was smiling widely.

I really enjoyed being able to freely add lots of yellow and a touch of aquamarine to satiate my need to use these colours. If you are wanting the kit there is only one left after todays bumper Flog it Friday Sale over at Mad About Scrappin but there are plenty of other goodies and cool kits the DT have put together, so pop over and have a looksie.

A LITTLE BIT OF AUTHENTIQUE PAPER CELEBRATION AT MAD ABOUT SCRAPPIN

I was so lucky to be given the 'Celebration' range of pp's by Authentique Paper as my DT kit for this month at Mad About Scrappin, and after creating several pages from this fanatstic paper range it seems the kit was a sell out, very exciting stuff. I have an uncompleted page which I will show you once I finish it but here is what I created using the range so far and will update the post when its done ;).

In this layout titled 'U&I' I thought the 'Enjoyment' pp leant itself to a bit of fussy cutting which I havent done in ages. I also made a mask from Tim Holtz make 'Your own mask' film using the floral design as inspiration. From the Elements Stickers sheet I used some of the pieced words to form the journaling and to echo a stylised version of brick work which was a fun way to combine the journaling and also add an element of interest.

 

This lo titled 'Don't Stop Playing' I decided to go with the 'B side' of 'Rejoice' pp, that was a given since I am a huge fan of woodprint patterns tee hee. Anyhoo I used a Page Draft template which will be released tomorrow :) I did some really basic gessoing to tone down the base paper then collaged some blue tissue paper to add a soft layer of colour then using a stencil I inked some black spots to help ground the teeny tiny photo's. Finally I added some female icons, the word art and journaling using some Grafix Rub-Onz transfer film which you can buy at Scrapboutique.

The base of this page was done by collaging some word strips I printed then gessoed over the top to tone them back. I then layered some torn strips of the 'Happy' pp on the left and cut some circular discs to add some interest. I also used some funky little 'Road' washi tape from the lovely Amanda of D-Lish Scraps.

This one is called 'The Makings of a Perfect Duo'. I loved these piccies of my hubby and son so decided that I would make a boy page using the eye catching 'Laughter' pp as the base. I gessoed some white areas then distress inked in black using the 'Mini Gears' Crafters Workshop template. I had to ink it a couple of times heat setting it between each application. Then I used some fabulous chipboard cogs and gears purchased from ScrapFriends.

Lastly these two cards were created using some of the 'Details' Stickers sheet.

So there you have it, my latest lot of DT pages for MAD, hope you like them. xo

GOT ME SOME '...me time scrappin'

Wow, I have been snowed under with DT work, which hey is heaps of fun its just you always feel like your on a schedule. However this week I managed to get a little '...me time...' scrappin into the mix and thought I'd play along with the latest Casefile #13 over at C.S.I.

Here is my submission all about yep you guessed little Master Tige.

This weeks palette #98 released at The Color Room is a gorgeous combination of lovely lilacs and a dash of sage green. The combo is not one I would normally give a go but I'm always up for a challenge and in the end it proved to be a fun palette to play with.

A LITTLE BIT OF BERRY71BLEU FOR YOU

I am so excited to be sharing with you my Guest DT spot at Berry71Bleu: Handmade Tags, Pages and more. The wonderful Mari (Marivic) sent me a box of scrapping goodies all the way from Texas which included some awesome little tags that we had to incorporate in a page or project.


I included a Berry71Bleu Tag in a baby Shower gift the altered art challenge that she set. It was a perfect match for a little boy bubba. 

Tip: Save baby formula tins they make perfect containers and are easy to cover in patterned papers.

This LO was for little Bethany who was celebrating her 4th birthday. The Berry71bleu tag had cute little cake embellishments on it so was a perfect fit for these photos and a great way to add hidden journaling.

Tip: Repetition of shapes on your page really create an eye catching and resolved design. If circles are your main shape then include some journaling strips to add some extra points of interest.

This layout was an extra page using some of the other bits and bobs Mari sent me.

Tip: Try different ways of using your photo's, this layered mosaic format is an easy way to add some fun to any page.

Mari also asked for a quick Tutorial so I decided to do one on making stencils. This is one of my all time fave things to do and really adds a unique touch to your pages.

HOW TO MAKE A CUSTOMISED STENCIL

Have you ever used a stencil or template in your project, if so do you love the effects you can create using them? In this tutorial we will look at how to create your very own unique re-usable stencil so that you can customise and add some extra points of interest to your projects. Here is a page I create dusing the stencil below.

Materials needed:

12X12 plastic stencil sheeting

Craft Knife

Ruler

Marker Pen

Photocopied Image of design

Step 1:

Mark your 12"x 12" border on the plastic sheeting; this acts as a guide for your overall size of template.

Step 2:

You could draw your design directly onto the sheeting or create a design in a photo-editing programme like Photoshop or PSE. If you choose this option, print out your image and use that as your design guide just as I have here.

Step 3:

When you are happy with your design align it underneath your plastic sheeting making sure the image remains confined within the outlined 12X12 border. Tape it along with the sheeting to your cutting mat to prevent it from moving then begin the careful cutting process. 

Hope you find this tutorial a fun way to add that little extra something to your layouts and projects.

BESTFRIENDS...

Its Friday which means its time for the reveal at TCR. This weeks palette #84 is a yummy whitewashed one using colour from brown and sandy tones. Its such a scrummy palette, which lends itself to using all those woodgrain pp's in your stash ;) If your a card maker or OTP fanatic The Color Room would love to see your designs in the gallery so come on over and share your gorgeous designs we'd love  to see them.

Here's my digi page of one of my dearest friends Shanthe with her daughter Tegan on Teegs 21st birthday. It blows my mind that Teegs is 21 it only seems like yesterday when I got the call she was born and scooted off to hospital to see an 8 week premmie bubba and then in a blink of an eye she is grown up, at uni studying Criminology and is a gorgeous young woman. 

I created the digital paper base by photographing a paper I had made using gesso, The Crafters Workshop Circle Grid template and masking tape then converting the colour to work with the palette, here is the original paper design.
