ONE PAGE FOR EVERY MONTH

Happy New Year everyone!
Hope you all had a great 2015 and an even better start to 2016.

It was a great year. One with many highs and some real lows but overall it was a year that has prepared me for the one ahead. I feel optimistic and positive which is a first in a real long time for me, funny how a few sessions with the brain doctor can get you to turn your thinking around hehe. I am now filled with excitment not dread and can't wait to see what my future holds. 2016 will be a year of personal growth and re-learning to respect and love myself again.

To start off 2016 I thought I'd look at 2015 in review and pick a few choice pages from each month. These are the ones that resonated with me and hope you like them too.
Love to you all Em xo

WORKING THE CAMERA!

After the past few weeks with my head down bottom up learning the ropes as a digital designer I have'nt had a chance to really play and scrapbook....but there must be some lil angels of fun lurking about because I have managed to get my scrappin' on the past couple of days!

Here is my page for the Kraft Plus Challenge Site which is open to digi scrappers too....YAY... I am so happy that it is because I love the palette & image swatch and really wanted to play along with this one.

So here is my sub and yep it features the lil mister again! hehe. I decided to reference the photo prompt by emulating the 3 layers of colour and then layered my sequence of photos on top of some stacked textured and pattern paper pieces. You can see I have used the Kraft paper as a base which is part of the criteria and then I also added some more Kraft into the page with the addition of a row of pennants. I really had fun with this challenge and think I might continue playing along ;)

This is my DT page for the current CSI Casefile #155. I changed it up a bit by rotating the sketch which you can grab for free as a digital download if you want to by heading over to my other blog The Nifty Pixel. The link is below in the credits ;)

EVIDENCE: I included a photo of Tige learning to ride his {Bicycle}. Some scribbles for the{Pen Work} a {Stamped} chevron accent and a {Metal} fastener on the letter 'B'.
TESTIMONY: I used the prompt {Write about a stage of life}. I journaled about learning new things and how exciting that is but also to find balance early on in life so it puts him in good stead for the rest of it!

I am lovin' Pocket pages they are tonnes of fun and so easy to do. I am also swooning over graphic modern patterns, gotta lurve a big PLUS SIGN! hehe

WOWAH IM BACK!

Well hello guys, this poor blog has been negelected the past few weeks...I have been so busy with my store launch! Did you know I have a store now? Did you know I am a legit digital designer? Did you know I am on cloud 9 to finally be working (having fun) doing my dream job?! hehehe

Its almost a week since my little business The Nifty Pixel opened its doors over at Scrap Stacks! Its been a long time coming but finally its kicked off and things have gone great so far (touch wood) lol. I have been busy and on the biggest learning curve, designing and packaging, planning my releases and coordinating my fab team of digital and hybrid scrappers which has been tonnes of fun, albeit pulling long hours but hey thats what you do at start up don't you??? Or am I seriously lacking organisational skills, I know my filing abilities are shocking spent most of yesterday sorting out my folders on 3 different External HD's flippen cray cray!

Anyways I thought just incase you havent been over to my business blog which is HERE, I'd share some of my pages created using my digital kits and packs hope thats okay. I am just a little excited by all this so figured a little showing off would be totally okay with you guys hehehe. The first two pages  not only feature my first digital kit 'Dreams Come True' but they also showcase a series of packs I have released tonight that are what I call 'The Nifty Tool Kits', handy little packs ;)

As a scrapper I love paper collections and digital kits that are really versatile. I seem to gravitate toward ones that are fairly non specific in theme. I reckon thats because it enables you to really go to town with your own theme. I do love a touch of modern mixed with vintage and will be going this way with most of my kits so as to get the extra mileage out of a kit.

Look at these two pages...they are a great example of how different they look yet both use the same digital kit!! You can create an elegant feminine page or mix it up a bit with some cool screenprint style alpha like my Pencilled In Alpha Pack to create a funky boy page. See what I mean?

MY TOP 12 FOR 2014!

After a couple of years that were so incredibly difficult, 2014 has turned out to be a bit of a reprieve from all that uncertainty and I cannot wait to pop that cork and celebrate 2014, what a ripper of a year it was!

It really has been an amazing 12 months! A year where Dan and I have had to get to know the new versions of ourselves. Its not been easy but I really like where we are at now. You see we very nearly left our marriage. I have talked about my depression before which came as a result of this. Putting on the brave face wasn't cutting the mustard for me, in the end my saddness took over. I was hurt and continually hurting I honestly didnt think life could get any worse. But now what really makes me proud is that we stuck it out! I am soooo grateful that we did, he has my back I have his and our Tigey is our shining light!

2015 is shaping up and promising to be a big year! Life works in mysterious ways after all this emotional struggle...at 44 I can say I feel happy and grounded. One of the newest blessings is that I finally have my dream job as a digital designer! Creating and designing kits and graphics packs is going to be my 9-5'er so whilst I'll be doing less scrapbooking I will be having fun creating and hopefully selling some of my goodies. If youre interested scoot over and check out my business blog THE NIFTY PIXEL for all the deets ;)

So, I thought a nice way to wrap up 2014 with a big bright bow is to share my top 12 pages from this year, one for each month and ones that I absolutely love. Its been fun working for some of the best designers in the digital industry another thing I feel blessed for, they are amazing and inspire me so much! Thank you Jules and Don (Sissy Sparrows), Krista Sahlin (Sahlin Studio) and Mirjam Schurings (Pink Reptile Designs) you guys rock, now I can say I am following the ranks it was you guys that gave me the confidence to give this a go, so thank you so much lovelies xox

WONDERFUL WORLD!

For the digital scrappers you'll know what I mean when I say we have sooooo many kits in our stash! So many that its almost like you create one or two pages and then you rarely visit them again. Well that was doing my head in especially when I know there are so many fabulous kits in my stash that havent seen the light of day in months. Sooooo.... I have decided to embark on a personal challenge and work my way through some starting with the Room 19 Collections created by Sissy Sparrows.

These collections are amazing! They are filled with so many individual packs, of elements, papers, overlays, brush sets and lots of other fantastic goodies that they are some of the greatest bundles the girls have put together. The first three pages are created using those kits and I have to say its been fun playing with them again, its a bit like catching up with an old friend, you wonder when you see them why its been so long since you've caught up lol!

Sissy Sparrows has also launched their very own forum. This little hub of activity and inspiration is called 'Hey Soul Sisters!' and is well worth a look! There will be tonnes of great tutorials both digitally inspired and many for the hybrid scrappers out there that love playing with digital kits.

Two of the newest adventures over there are the Monthly ATC swap and the fun 'Cock & Bull' challenge. This months ATC swap 'Hearts a Mess' is all about the matters of the heart.

All you have to do is create a digital ATC using atleast 75% SS products whilst sticking to theme and in return you get pockets full of amazing ATC's. Last months was a huge success with over 15 designs submitted, I bet this months will be just as awesome!
Here is my ATC sub.

The next challenge is the new 'Cock & Bull' Challenge. This is a fun one because it uses a photograph as the prompt to creating a trumped up and completely fabricated story. Gotta love spinning a yarn, hey!

Here is my take on the first C&B Challenge.... poor Betty!

PAINTED YESTERDAY.

This week Sissy Sparrows released an awesome new kit called 'Painted Yesterday' with an add-on pack of yummy overlays. Its a bright and pretty kit with lots of great ephemera to get you creating anything your heart desires. I followed the lead on a couple of the images in the pack which really influenced the theme of my CT pages...here's what I created.

I don't normally share alot about my personal life but some of you may know that I have been suffering from depression, if not well there it is you do now! Although I would say I am not clinically depressed there has certainly been that black dog nipping at my heels and an overwhelming sense of dread. Its not been a fun time the past few years and I've quietly lived with it for almost a decade and continually putting a big front on. People would see me as happy and vibrant but inside I was screaming, crying and just plain miserable.

My depression stems from my spinal injury. Pain and physical limitation takes its toll on your mental health and that combined with some personal emotional stuff slowly but surely caused me to shut down in many ways. Emotionally and physically I was a wreck and I completely lost myself for a while. Its hard to recognise in yourself because it is a slow and steady subtle change in your personality. The only thing that really kept me from sleeping in bed all day were my beautiful boys and the fact that I would cramp up lol. I buried myself in scrapbooking and of course my boys, whilst everything else was spiralling out of control.

Anyways,  I'm not one for medication although I probably should have opted for that a few times given I was feeling so lowly but I managed to just kept my head above water with some counselling and some serious soul searching. But really it all came down to something my son Tige did!

I remember him saying one afternoon after we spent a day at home doing zilchomondo... 'Mummy I need to run up and down our street!'. Well, ummm...okay of course sweety. So I took him outside and watched how carefree and determined he was.

It was then I knew that I didn't want to feel so disconnected with the world anymore and ultimately I needed to start making change and the first step is by simply moving. I know...honestly it was as simple as that and I owe it all to my little mentor. I learnt an important lesson not only that I needed to expend energy and regularly, but I needed to listen to my body and treat my mind to some solice! It took a bit of motivating but I have managed to get myself back to the gym. Since I started going, I've noticed an amazing change in my mental health. I seem more decisive, I am still flat at times but its early days. I have more energy, my competative streak is coming back, I am sleeping and I am no longer feeling lonely or completely useless which has gotta be a good thing.

The added bonus I did not factor in is that I have met some lovely people there, its been fun training with such motivated and kind ones. The biggest thing I have discovered is that many of these people also suffered from depression and or anxiety (go figure), so I don't feel like such a failure. I know its silly to view yourself that way but thats how my depression manifested. So the gym has proven to be a caring and supportive community and I love it, and best part is I get to hang with Dan more now and build up a sweat just by watching him train! lol

So to cut an extra bloody long story short, the page below is of a photo of me taken about 6-7 years ago when I was feeling better about myself. Its where I'd like to get back to and is my goal. I want to experience that same sense of self again, full of confidence, being healthy and feeling foxy!

Anyways thats enough about me but I will keep you posted on how things go. I just embarked on a 10 week programme and have the 'before' shot but wont share that until I have the 'after' shot to compare around Christmas so if youre interested stay tuned for the new me! ha ah

So back to Sissy Sparrows! The girls have also released some awesome new product lines this week. The first being Cardiology a great new line of handy printable gift cards, check them out below how cool are they!
They have also started a range of ATC making kits. The first kit is called 'In Flight' and its beautiful. This mini kit is perfect for Love and Ornithology swap themes just to name a few. I love the idea of being able to create a full sleeve of ATC's to share and swap with buddies and this is as easy as 1-Print, 2- Cut and 3-Paste. In the coming weeks Sissy Sparrows will be hosting some awesome ATC swaps too so I'll keep you posted on the details for those.

Here are a couple of ATC's I've made using the kit....meet Polly & Bob!

Here are the hybrid versions.

...ooh be careful you may get struck by cupid's arrow!

Finally on the Sissy Sparrows front, each month they host an Art Journal Challenge called 'The painted Nest'. I have been a bit snowed under the past few so have missed some.... oooooops! But, this month I made it a priority and had a play. Here are the prompts which include the freebie pack which you can grab from the Scrapbook Graphics Forum under the Challenges Tab. Inside the pack you will find the free elements which must be included in your creations along with the journal prompts and colour palette.

...and here is my take on the challenge.
